Craig Roberts - Everyday Hero

February 9, 2012

Craig Roberts
Custodian II
Facilities Custodial

Jyenna Baeza in Facilities nominated Craig Roberts for an Everyday Hero Award because of his willingness to help out in any situation. Jyenna describes a specific instance: “We were in our golf cart heading to Student Services and saw a student with his map out. The student kept turning in circles and rotating his map, so Craig leaned over to me and said, ‘I think that poor kid is lost - let’s go help him.’

"We drove up and Craig asked him if he needed any help. The student asked if it was that obvious, and Craig just laughed and asked what building he was looking for.

"The student was looking for the Rec Center, so instead of trying to explain where the building was, Craig told the student to hop on and we would take him to it.

"That poor student was so happy that he didn’t have to stand in the parking lot with his map trying to figure out where he was. The entire way over he kept saying how much he appreciated the ride and assistance. Craig said, 'Anytime you see me in the golf cart and have a question, feel free to flag me down.'”

That's not all

Craig explained that he feels every CSU employee has the chance to be the first and best impression to a student or visitor, and it’s up to each of us to represent CSU to the best of our ability.

“Anytime we’re short staffed, which is most of the time, instead of adding the burden of extra work to the current employees, Craig jumps in and takes the extra work and does it himself,” Jyenna said. “He always goes above and beyond to help anyone that needs his help and always does it with a smile on his face.”

When Craig isn’t working, he enjoys reading history and building model tanks and cars. His plans for the future include continuing to work at CSU until retirement.

When asked what he wanted fellow employees to know about himself, Craig said that he’s a dedicated professional who enjoys his job and working at CSU. He truly enjoys coming to work and being around the energy that the young people on campus have.

Craig said he was surprised and very happy to be nominated for the Everyday Hero Award. He’s been working at Facilities for four years.
