Tenure and Promotion: Should Research Data Count?

May 12, 2014

Faculty survey to measure attitudes regarding the possibility of including shared research data as a performance metric in the tenure and promotion process.

Members of the Data Management department in the CSU Libraries are conducting a survey to measure faculty attitudes regarding the possibility of including shared research data as a performance metric in the tenure and promotion process. This information may help inform University tenure and promotion policy decisions regarding shared research data.

Research data are anything you collect or generate that support your research process including, but not limited to numbers, letters, measurements, pictures, recordings, etc. Sharing research data usually involves making it publicly and freely available to view and download on the internet.

Ten-minute survey

The following survey asks 39 questions and the takes about 10 minutes to complete and is completely voluntary. You may stop taking the survey at any time, and you may skip any question for any reason.

Anonymized survey data will be deposited in CSU’s Digital Repository and will be reported in aggregate via an article submission to an academic journal. While we will make every effort to protect your identity, it may be possible for someone to identify you based on your voluntary disclosure of faculty rank and departmental affiliation.
