CSU will celebrate 100 years of Homecoming

April 2, 2014

Mark your calendars: CSU will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its first Homecoming during its annual Homecoming and Family Weekend, set for Oct. 16-18.

The Friday night campus fireworks show is part of the annual CSU Homecoming and Family Weekend celebration. The time-honored tradition began in October 1914 when CSU President Charles A. Lory declared a special alumni reunion centered around a football game pitting the present team against the alumni. In the years since, Homecoming has blossomed into a much broader event that includes Family Weekend activities, class and organizational reunions, the 50 Year Club, 5K race, bonfire, lighting of the “A” and the ever-popular parade.

“Even though a lot has changed in 100 years, alumni have and always will remain core to our institution,” said Colleen Meyer, executive director of the Alumni Association. “Homecoming is the perfect opportunity to celebrate and appreciate our alumni and CSU. Given this year’s historical significance, it’s time to come back and revisit the place you once called ‘home.’ ”

Rams hosting Utah State

As in Lory’s day, football is the main event. The Rams, coming off their first bowl victory in five years, host Utah State on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Hughes Stadium. Scheduled kickoff will be announced at a later date.
