Frederick Carpenter, 95, retired math professor, died Feb. 2

Frederick Carpenter, 95, of Rockford, Ill., died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, in his residence.

Born Oct. 2, 1913; the son of Frederick and Lois (Marston) Carpenter. He married Velma Hicks June 18, 1935. She predeceased him Dec. 15, 2007.

Frederick was a retired professor of mathematics at the Colorado School of Mines and Colorado State University. He was an avid hunter.

Frederick is survived by his son, Bill (Janice) Carpenter; grandchildren, Leland Carpenter and Catherine (Kevin) Kitterman; great-grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, and Sarah; sisters, Margaret Mortimer and Helen Rosenthal. Predeceased by wife; son, Gary; brothers, Eugene and Charles; and sister, Mildred Cavanaugh.
