CSU celebrates art, music and Cesar Chavez

CSU's annual Cesar Chavez celebration March 22-29 features a theme of "Continuing the Work of Cesar Chavez: A Tribute through Art and Music."

Cesar Chavez, who died in 1993, will be honored this week at CSU."This year’s celebration focuses on the art and music that reflects the legacies of Cesar Chavez, which continue to make a difference in the lives of all people," said Guadalupe Salazar, director of El Centro. "We must never forget our heroes who led the way for a better tomorrow; Cesar Chavez was one hero many of us will never forget."

Several events to take place

Celebrations begin Friday, March 22, with the Friday Afternoon Club Cesar Chavez Celebration, hosted by Apartment Life, 6-8 p.m. at the International House lobby. The event will honor Cesar Chavez, co-founder of the United Farm Workers, and the role he played in the civil rights movement. March 31 is the anniversary of his birth in 1927. Refreshments will be available.

On Thursday, March 28, the annual Cesar Chavez Community Celebration will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Drake Centre, 802 W. Drake Road in Fort Collins. The night will be celebrated with food, awards and entertainment, including a performance by LASSO and author Gloria Velásquez, Ph.D, will present "Dare to Dream."

The celebration concludes Friday, March 29, with a brown-bag session 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. with Velásquez presenting "My Life Journey: From the Farmworker Fields to Stanford University." The event will be held in the Lory Student Center Theatre, and attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch. Cookies and lemonade will be provided.
