Oval Criterium, Feb. 28

February 24, 2009

Ram Cycling is gearing up for their first race of the season, the 22nd annual Oval Criterium. The race will be this Saturday Feb. 28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The collegiate races will take place in the morning with about 14 universities from the region including schools from Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. The afternoon will feature competitive riders.

The Ram Cycling team took first in their conference last year and is currently ranked 3rd in nationals. They’ll be hosting the national competition over Mother’s Day weekend in May.

Experience a race, locally

“People have been exposed to cycling more with Lance Armstrong and the Tour de France but haven't been to a race. It’s a great way to see a race,” says Erick Carlson of the Ram Cycling team.

With eight turns on the course, Carlson promises it will be an exciting race.

Race course takes riders around The Oval and through campus

The start/finish is located between the Weber and Statistics buildings on the west side of The Oval.

The race route goes south around The Oval to West Drive, University Ave., East Drive, A Street, Mason Street, back onto University Ave., East Drive, and around the east side of The Oval back to the start.

Parking is free on the weekend in the A, X, and Z lots but there is no parking along the race route the day of the race.

This race is hosted by Ram Cycling and Peloton Cycles.
