Have you had an ergonomic evaluation yet?

Febuary 15, 2010

Do you have pain or discomfort at work? An Ergonomic Evaluation from Environmental Health Services may help. Regardless if you work in an office, a lab, or a classroom, EHS can provide useful tips on making your work environment both safer and more comfortable. In many cases, a simple change or two can make a remarkable difference in your comfort.

Schedule a free ergonomic evaluation

An ergonomic evaluation reviews proper equipment use, workstation setup, basic body mechanics, and gives recommendations and possible solutions to potential problems. In addition, EHS offers an equipment loan program where you can “try before you buy” certain equipment.

Avoid risk factors

Think your workstation is fine and “that’ll never happen to me?” According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 29 percent of all workplace injuries in 2008 were the result of Musculoskeletal Disorders, or MSD’s.

MSD’s are injuries which occur from exposure to risk factors such as awkward posture, repetition, force, and vibration.  An ergonomic evaluation can help identify and prevent these risk factors, and decrease your chance of getting an MSD.

Remember: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Musculoskeletal Disorders don’t just occur in your workplace, either. Did you know that over one trillion text messages sent in 2008 in the U.S. alone? Think of the repetition thumbs are exposed to, typing all those messages! Ergonomic evaluations review good “rules of thumb” to keep in mind when you’re not at work, too.

Call or e-mail

Call or e-mail to schedule an appointment, where an ergonomic specialist will visit you at work and evaluate your workstation setup and work habits. This is a service provided by Environmental Health Services at no charge. Please call or e-mail for more information and benefits from having an ergonomic evaluation.

Stop an injury before it starts!
