Q&A with CSU Hero Casey Simpson

November 5, 2012

As part of this year's 2012 Student Gratitude event, Casey Simpson, a graduate from the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, is offering a little insight into what it means to be a CSU Hero and a young alumna.

Could you tell me a little bit about your experience at CSU?

Being a CSU ram was one of the happiest times in my life. I grew up in a small town on the Western slope of Colorado. Although I love where I grew up, it was CSU that exposed me to an entirely new set of ideas, thoughts, people and experiences. The exposures to new ideas and interactions with amazing people was what shaped my CSU experience.

What inspires you to give back to CSU?

I am a Colorado native and so I proudly support our state's land-grant institution. I believe whole-heartedly in the mission of CSU.

I choose to give back, because, as a public institution, CSU relies on state funding. With the state of our economy, public support is dwindling, and therefore, it's all the more necessary for private support to be given to CSU.

I want to give back and support the university that has changed my life forever, and I want to help support my school so that others can have the opportunity to attend CSU and be exposed to to the same wonderful experiences that I was.

What are you doing now?

I currently teach third grade at Ashland Park-Robbins Elementary school in Omaha, Neb.

Is there anything you would like current students and alumni to know?

I can honestly say that my experiences and involvement in the clubs and activities I participated in at Colorado State has helped me prepare for the expectations and requirements of the job world.

I would also like to give kudos to the Human Development departments as well as the Early Childhood Education department; their courses and class work also have helped to equip me with the knowledge to be successful in my classroom.

I am so very proud to be a CSU Ram!
