New course offering for spring 2013!

The new course, Topics in Sustainable Bioenergy (AGRI 180A1), will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m., with a recitation scheduled for Fridays at 10 a.m. Courtney Jahn is the instructor.

Topics include:

  • What is a biofuel
  • How biofuels are made
  • The food vs. fuel debate
  • Different biofuels for different communities
  • The sustainability of bioenergy

This  introductory  course  is  an  overview  of  bioenergy, from farm to fuel. The class covers key concepts in the bioenergy field including:

  • potential energy crops (biomass, oilseeds, and algae);
  • energy conversion processes (fermentation and thermochemical);
  • ethics, politics and sustainability of bioenergy.

Recitation will include lab activities and discussion. No prerequisites are required, and all majors are welcome.
