Learn the art of video creation

Improve your video-making skills with this free, five session short course.

New video mini course

The course will focus on the process of creating a video from start to finish with an emphasis on producing and story-telling. Students will produce, shoot, and edit a short video in their area of interest. The course will examine the difference between producing video for

  • news,
  • sports,
  • entertainment, and
  • YouTube.

One session will focus on the business of video production.

Experienced instructor

Instructor Mary Timby is a Master's student at CSU seeking a M.S. in Public Communication and Technology. Her experience working in the television industry ranges from news production, to anchoring, to management.

As a CSU undergraduate student, she worked almost every crew position available at Campus Television (CTV- channel 11). She also managed the relocation and remodel of CTV's production studio. Her television interests include reality TV casting and entertainment video production.

Course schedule and requirements

This class will be held Thursdays, Feb. 24-March 31, excluding March 17 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

Prerequisite: This class is intended for intermediate students, therefore students should have 1-3 years of shooting, editing, and producing experience.

Final Cut editing equipment provided. Students must provide digital camera equipment. Note: Students can check digital cameras and tripods out from Morgan Library.
