Working at CSU

Everyday Hero Karyn LeBlanc

September 8, 2009

Everyday Hero is a special recognition program sponsored by the Classified Personnel Council for recognizing outstanding employees within the CSU community. All Colorado State University state classified staff, administrative professionals, and faculty members are eligible to receive the award.

Karyn LeBlanc
Materials Supervisor
HDS – Operations Management

Karyn was nominated by Allison DeWaele of Housing and Dining Services, Operations Management. Here is what Allison had to say about Karyn:

“Karyn consistently strives to find the most cost effective and sustainable product for our purchasing area. She models exceptional customer service to her internal and external customers. Her area has been short staffed for about 6 months and she has picked up some of the extra duties due to that shortage without complaint. She consistently thinks “outside the box” while always keeping in mind state and CSU rules and regulations.

"At times she is asked to purchase large items and due to an emergency must get this item here ASAP. She is the “go to gal” for these large item purchases (boilers, air handlers, etc.) because the crew knows she will do her best to get the best product here as soon as possible to remedy the emergency situation. Karyn’s positive energy, sense of humor, and work ethic are truly appreciated by many!”

Karyn has been employed with CSU for six years in her present position as materials supervisor. Prior to coming to CSU, Karyn worked for Hewlett Packard and Agilent. She enjoys working at CSU because she feels like she is making a difference in the lives of students. She enjoys being part of their experience at CSU and feeling connected to them.

Karyn is currently on the Operations Management Employee Recognition Committee. The committee recognizes outstanding employees on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis. They also give an “Invisible Employee” award which the recipient is nominated by peer employees. In the past, she served as chair for three years on the Live Green Team. The Live Green Team promotes sustainability in residential halls and University apartments. Karyn is also a member of the professional organization, Institute for Supply Management.

Karyn’s hobbies are reading, traveling, and hiking. Karyn enjoys reading but she never has enough time to read! She loves living in Colorado and going to the mountains.

When asked how she feels about being nominated for an Everyday Hero, Karyn said, “I don’t feel like I am a hero. I’m just doing my job. There are lots of heroes out there and it is hard to be in the spotlight.” She feels the people that work for her are heroes and she has a fantastic team. Karyn’s future plan at CSU is to take her job into the next level. She hopes to continue to improve customer service in her area.
