Need to borrow a bike? City Bike Library opens location on campus

June 5, 2014

Starting this week, visitors, residents and students of Fort Collins can borrow a bike for free through the city's Bike Library lending service at Colorado State University's Surplus Property Department.

The new CSU satellite location, located at 201 West Lake Street, will provide 20 bikes available for rental. Summer hours of operation for the Surplus Property Bike Library are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Available bikes have been donated to the Fort Collins Bike Library and include popular and comfortable cruiser style cycles that can be used for relaxed riding or expedient travel.

To rent a bike, visit Surplus Property or sign up online at https://www.fcbikelibrary.org/signup.php.

Bike Library checks out thousands of bikes

Since opening its doors in 2008, the Fort Collins Bike Library has checked out more than 20,000 free bikes to riders.

“Adding a bike library site on campus will now make it even easier for visitors of Fort Collins and CSU to explore and experience some of the city’s well known cycling culture. Having this on campus is a perfect fit for our program; it allows us to get more bikes in the hands of conference attendees and those visiting the campus,” said Stacy Sebeczek, director of the Fort Collins Bike Library.

“Now that the Bike Library is operating at Surplus Property, we encourage residents and visitors of Fort Collins to share in our community’s love of cycling,” said Jake Drenth, surplus property manager.

Funding to support the Bike Library satellite office on campus is being provided by Parking and Transportation Services and by Surplus Property. With this support, the Bike Library is returning to campus after several years.

The Surplus Property Department is a reuse, resale and recycle point for all assets owned by CSU. The department helps reallocate still usable items from one area of the university to other areas with a need and operates a storefront to sell all of the remaining items to the general public.
