Half-way through RecycleMania, CSU still in the Top 10 but aiming to go higher

March 2, 2010

The 2010 RecycleMania competition is at the half-way point and Colorado State University is No. 9 out of 607 other colleges and universities. CSU has a current recycling rate of percent 54.49 - down from 56.56 percent last week.

Aiming higher

Nine is fine, but CSU is aiming to go higher. You can help boost the numbers with a spring cleaning party. Offices, labs, and halls can request up to four 95-gallon recycle bins to clean out files, documents, newspapers/magazines, etc.

To request spring cleaning recycling bins, call (970) 491-0113 and leave a message with your building name and specific room number for the bin delivery.

This friendly competition will end March 27. Your extra efforts and attention to recycling could help make CSU and the environment real winners!

Green is Gold makes a difference

The Green is Gold campaign is a campus-wide initiative to save energy and reduce energy costs. Teammates from a location on campus – such as a department - work together to implement energy saving measures in their building.

The next review date for the Green is Gold score sheets is April 1, 2010. The highest-achieving teams will be recognized at the CSU Earth Day Celebration and Student Sustainability Fair on April 22. To motivate all of the teams to turn in score sheets, a special treat was delivered this week.

Record points for prizes

During RecycleMania, it’s a great time for Green is Gold teams to take green action and record points for prizes. Teams can earn energy-efficiency grants, community bikes and Green is Gold certification so start recording points today.

The Green is Gold score sheet is now available online. Get your team set up on the online score sheet which will automatically report your points to the Green is Gold coordinators. Each team can set a group password so that all team members can record points and check your team's progress.

There is one month before the next Green is Gold review date so rally your team to make a difference with RecycleMania and show how green CSU can be!
