No. 15 Rams take on Pioneers, Cowgirls

October 19, 2010
By Tony Phifer

CSU volleyball team will wear pink Wednesday and orange Friday as they close colorful four-game homestand.

The Colorado State University Rams will be a volleyball team of a different color this week as they close out a four-match homestand by facing the University of Denver and Wyoming.

The 15th-ranked Rams (17-2, 7-0 Mountain West Conference) have won eight consecutive matches and are alone in first place in the MWC. Tonight’s match against DU closes the nonconference portion of their schedule.

Rams will be in the pink for DU

Senior Danielle Minch, who was named MWC player of the week, will lead the Rams in matches against DU and Wyoming.

The DU match, set for 7 p.m. at Moby Arena, has been designated “Dig Pink” night to raise awareness about breast cancer. The Rams will don pink jerseys for the match, and fans are encouraged to wear pink.

CSU has dominated the series with DU, winning 13 of the 14 matches. The Pioneers (11-13, 5-5 Sun Belt Conference) are coming off consecutive wins over Louisiana-Monroe and Louisiana-Lafayette.

"Orange Out" for Border War

The annual Border War match against Wyoming, set for 7 p.m. Friday, has been designated an “Orange Out” night. The Rams will wear new orange and green jerseys as a tribute to the school’s past, when it was known as Colorado A&M and the school colors were pumpkin and alfalfa. Fans are encouraged to wear orange.

Wyoming (18-4, 4-3 MWC) is having one of its best seasons in school history. The Cowgirls are coming off a three-set sweep of TCU, which took CSU to five sets last week. CSU, though, has beaten the Cowgirls 24 consecutive times and leads the all-time series 49-18.

MWC honors Minch

The Rams are led by senior outside hitter Danielle Minch, who was named MWC player of the week after leading the Rams to wins over TCU and New Mexico. It was the second weekly honor for Minch, who is the reigning MWC player of the year.
