Janet Vigil was nominated by Sheela Backen of Facilities for an Everyday Hero Award for being highly motivated as a custodial manager.
Janet began at CSU 20 years ago as a non-student hourly with Facilities. Five years later, she became a state-classified employee and has since been working in all different capacities of Facilities custodial.
She has worked on every building on campus at some point during her career. Janet is now the custodial manager of seven teams on campus.
“Janet works very well with her teams and customers to keep things running smoothly,” Sheela says.
Janet came to CSU after running a day care for nine years. She enjoys spending time with her grandson, nieces and nephews, drawing, reading, doing yard work, and mastering her home improvement skills.
She plans to retire in the future and hopes to one day travel overseas. For now, Janet is still striving to make a difference by doing more with less.
When asked what she would like fellow employees to know about her, Janet said there isn’t much her staff doesn’t already know about her, but one thing that resonates with her is that she would never ask anyone to do something that she wasn’t willing to do herself.
Sheela says, “Janet is highly motivated and works very hard.” Janet was surprised to be nominated and grateful to be recognized for all she does.
Do you have a colleague who deserves recognition, a co-worker who makes the workplace better or someone who just made your day?
Everyday Hero is a special recognition program sponsored by the Classified Personnel Council for recognizing outstanding employees within the CSU community. All CSU state classified staff, administrative professionals, and faculty members are eligible to receive the award.
