Campus construction notice

November 4, 2008

The $17 million Rockwell Hall expansion project construction got underway Nov. 4. In addition, Saunders Construction has begun demolition and reconstruction of the southwest Moby concourse in association with the $6 million Academic and Training Center.

Rockwell Hall expansion construction underway

The $17 million Rockwell Hall expansion project, which will add 53,000 square feet to the west of Rockwell Hall, is set to start construction on Nov. 4, 2008.  The expansion will include nine new classrooms, a 112-seat grand auditorium, a financial data lab and a student forum.

All new classrooms will be equipped with state-of-the-art technologies to provide students with the most up-to-date information and knowledge in preparation for a fast-paced, ever-changing workplace.  The Fort Collins-based Bohemian Foundation, a longtime supporter of Colorado State University, has committed up to $3 million for the planned expansion.  The balance of the financing is from Student Facility Fees and the Business College.

Parking impacts

The construction will impact parking in the Allison Residence Hall "Q" lot (#170).  During construction this lot will be closed.  Displaced parkers should seek alternative parking in the temporary "Q" lot to the west of the lagoon, and in the Moby lot (#195).

Pedestrian access changes

The construction will also impact pedestrian access.  The construction fence will be extended from its current location.  It will run along the sidewalk on Laurel Street from the west side of Rockwell Hall across the entrance to lot #170.  It will extend south to Allison Hall, then back to Rockwell Hall.  The construction is expected to last until Jan 2010.

Moby Arena sidewalk and ramp closure

In addition, Saunders Construction will begin demolition and reconstruction of the southwest Moby concourse in association with the $6 million Academic and Training Center.  This 18,000 square foot addition to the south of the McGraw Athletics Center will house weight training and tutoring facilities for student athletes.  The sidewalk and the ramp will be closed during from Friday Oct. 31, 2008, through March 2009.  Directional signage will be provided for foot traffic.

As always, we appreciate your understanding and patience with the challenges of constructing buildings on our busy campus.  Eight major construction projects are underway on the Colorado State campus to enhance its teaching, recreation and athletic facilities.
