'Take Back the Night' April 29

April 28, 2010

Take Back the Night is an event to increase awareness of sexual assault in the community. In its 19th year in Fort Collins, the international event begins as a "speak out" for survivors to share their experience.

Take Back the Night
Thursday, April 29, 6 p.m.
Lory Student Center Sculpture Garden

Join participants as they move in a massive march from the Lory Student Center Sculpture Garden through the streets from campus to Old Town Square in downtown Fort Collins, while chanting, "take back the night."

Speakers at Old Town Square

Take Back the Night will feature two speakers in Old Town Square:

  • Roe Bubar, J.D. (CSU Ethnic Studies Professor; chair of CSU Woman's Studies Department; formally worked with survivors of assault on reservations)
  • Rebecca Preston, slam poet (current CU Boulder student; VOX Rising, 2007)

Words of strength and empowerment

Bubar and Preston will "take back the night" with words of strength and empowerment. The march will circle back to campus, ending in a short ceremony.
