Take Back the Night April 23

April 17, 2009

Take Back the Night has inspired both women and men to confront a myriad of social ills, including: rape, sexual violence, domestic violence, violence against children, and violence against women. The unifying theme throughout these diverse topics is the assertion that all human beings have the right to be free from violence, the right to be heard, and the right to reclaim those rights if they are violated.

Positive atmosphere

The Fort Collins 17th annual Take Back the Night, an internationally recognized protest and rally, will be taking place on Thursday, April 23 at 6 p.m. in the Sculpture Garden of the Lory Student Center.

Take Back the Night creates an atmosphere of empowerment, while raising awareness about sexual violence and advocating its end.

The event begins with a 'Speak Out' - an open forum for survivors and allies to share their story or the story of a loved one.

This is followed by a march against sexual violence to Old Town at 7:30, and a rally at 8 p.m. in Old Town Square where poet-activists Alex Bartz, Jennifer Pacheco, and Isis will perform.

This event is held by the Campus Feminist Alliance in cooperation with ASCSU. For more information contact the Campus Feminist Alliance at (970) 218-1260.
