Summer sessions set record enrollments at public colleges

Early signs suggest that many public colleges and universities will approach or pass record high enrollments.

There does not appear to be one reason why students are choosing to spend their summers in school, but among the factors:

  • poor job market
  • greater awareness of the need to complete a degree as quickly and inexpensively as possible
  • competitiveness of summer job and internships markets
  • rise in the number of student who attend other institutions but are looking to save money by taking classes at home this summer
  • implementation of year-round Pell Grants
