Coach Holt signs multi-year contract

February 6, 2009

Colorado State University Director of Athletics Paul Kowalczyk announced Thursday that head women's basketball coach Kristen Holt has agreed to a multi-year contract that will keep the Rams' coach in place through the 2012-2013 season.

Holt was promoted to head coach at the end of last season to replace former coach Jen Warden. Kowalczyk said Holt has earned the contract to continue as the Rams' coach.

"Kristen has clearly demonstrated she has what it takes to be a successful head coach and to lead our program back to the top, in the conference and nationally," Kowalczyk said. "She can teach, coach, recruit, manage, mentor and lead - she is the consummate professional with strong core values and I'm delighted we will be retaining her services for the long-term.

"Building a Program of Excellence"

Holt, who adopted a motto of "Building a Program of Excellence" upon her promotion to head coach, has led the Rams program to one of the top turnarounds in the nation this season, improving from two regular-season wins and an overall record of 4-28 in 2007-08, to seven victories only midway through the Mountain West Conference schedule in 2008-09.

"I would like to thank Dr. Frank and Paul Kowalczyk for the opportunity to remain at Colorado State as the head women's basketball coach," said Holt. "I am excited about the strides that our team has made this season. Colorado State has a history of great women's basketball and it is my goal to elevate this program atop the Mountain West Conference and return it to national prominence."

"I have watched with keen interest how the team has responded since she took over the program last spring and have been extremely impressed with the results," added Kowalczyk. "It's not all about the number of wins right now but there's unmistakable evidence that many more will follow under her leadership."
