'Get Your Green On' campaign for Ram spirit

August 22, 2011

Green will be the color of choice on campus, in the city, and across the state on Fridays throughout the year.

Colorado State University President Tony Frank, Fort Collins Mayor Karen Weitkunat and ASCSU President Eric Berlinberg are asking Ram fans to Get Your Green On in a campaign aimed at boosting school spirit.

Students, faculty, staff, fans, and supporters across the campus, city, and state are being encouraged to wear CSU colors on Fridays throughout the year. The campaign officially began Aug. 19.

Proclamations from campus, city leaders

In his proclamation, Frank heralds CSU’s commitment to academic excellence while adding that the University’s green and gold colors “are both pleasing to the eye and proven to be more inspiring to young athletes, alumni, and fans than such alternative combinations as black and gold.”

Weitkunat made her official proclamation during the Aug. 16 city council meeting, encouraging people to join the Get Your Green On campaign. Berlinberg issued his proclamation while welcoming students back to campus.

“We thought this would be a great way to encourage people to show their Ram pride and display their colors every week,” says Gary Ozzello, CSU’s senior associate director of athletics. “We want people to support not just athletics but the entire University. We always see people wearing green and gold at athletic events, but we want them to wear their colors throughout the week – and particularly on Fridays.”

While the campaign is intended to strengthen the bond between CSU and the community, having support from the students is an important component.

“We are very excited about ASCSU’s support in this project,” Ozzello says. “Building school spirit was one of Eric Berlinberg’s campaign platforms, and we have been working with him and Vice President Rachel Roberson to support Get Your Green On."

CSU will also sponsor Get Your Green On days at area corporate partner retail outlets, where CAM the Ram, the CSU cheer squad, and various coaches will be on hand to greet fans. Drawings for tickets, game apparel, and a free tailgate in Ram Town will be held.
