Learn to swing dance with the Swing Dance Society

April 25, 2012
By Savannah King

Looking for an extracurricular activity that involves having a swingin' good time? Try checking out CSU's Swing Dance Society, a swing dancing club that welcomes members of any and all skill levels to get their swing dancing groove on!

Free lessons every Wednesday

The club, which lists its favorite and most commonly used dance styles as jitterbug, lindy hop, bal boa and solo charleston, also involves a joint swing dance society for advanced swing dancers called BLAM! that performs for fundraisers, events and also competes in competitions such as the Intercollegiate Swing Battle at the end of April.

The society meets every Wednesday night on campus in the Lory Student Center near the doors leading to the Transit Center. Free lessons begin at 7:15 p.m., and free-for all social dancing begins at 8:15 p.m.

Wild Asparagus Ball May 5

In just under two weeks, the club will be holding its annual end of the school year Wild Asparagus Ball on May 5, which gives you a few chances to get some lessons and swing dance practice in before the big event.

The ball will feature the Mostly Strauss Orchestra, and will be held in the Lory Student Center’s Main Ballroom from 8-11:30 p.m with doors opening at 7:30. Tickets are $20 through April 28, and $28 thereafter – but if you’re a student, be sure to get your $5 student discount off these prices.

Any questions about the Wild Asparagus Ball, or the Swing Dance Society can be emailed to, or you can check out their Facebook page or website for information, dance etiquette and some fun videos that show you what the Swing Dance Society is all about.
