'New York Times' journalist Michael Cieply

The Department of Journalism and Technical Communication, Associated Students of Colorado State University, and other campus sponsors have invited Michael Cieply, who covers Hollywood for the Media Desk at 'The New York Times,' to speak about 'Arts and The Times."

Writing about entertainment

Michael Cieply will give a campus talk at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, in Behavioral Sciences, Room 131. The title of his talk is, "The Arts and The Times."

“Mr. Cieply has covered a wide range of entertainment and media stories for perhaps the best newspaper in the United States," said Kris Kodrich, CSU journalism professor.

"Anyone interested in journalism and how Hollywood is covered by the media will find his talk of interest.”

From producer to NYT writer

Cieply has worked as the movie editor for the Culture section of The Times.

Before joining The Times, Cieply was an editor and reporter covering entertainment and media for the business section of the Los Angeles Times and a reporter covering entertainment and business for various publications including Forbes Magazine and The Wall Street Journal.

Prior to his career in journalism, Cieply was a film and television producer and production executive with various companies, including ABC, Columbia, Disney, Fox, Universal and United Airlines.


The free talk is sponsored by the Associated Students of Colorado State University; Department of Music, Theatre & Dance; Department of Journalism & Technical Communication; the CSU Chapter of Society of Professional Journalists; and the Rocky Mountain Student Media Corporation.

The talk is part of the New York Times InCollege program.
