Crossroads Safehouse donation drive

April 23, 2009

Do you have old or new clothes you'd like to donate? An old cell phone? Paper goods? Stamps & envelopes? Toiletries? Consider dropping an item off at the Crossroads Safehouse donation drive on the Lory Student Center Plaza on Tuesday, April 28.

A safe refuge

The Crossroads Safehouse women's shelter in Fort Collins relates these two stories about victims of domestic violence in Northern Colorado who escaped and found safety at the shelter:

One woman and her infant fled their apartment in Northern Colorado following an incident in which her husband violently attacked her and attempted to kill her. She picked up her baby and walked to a gas station to call 911. The police directed them to Crossroads, where they were able to find shelter and safety.

To escape her abuser, another Crossroads client walked all night from an ICU ward in South Denver to Fort Collins wearing only slippers and the clothes she had worn in the hospital. Her friend directed her to Crossroads, and she was able to begin the process of healing and rebuilding her life in the Safehouse and continues that process in our transitional housing.

Clients at the Crossroads Safehouse receive more than temporary, secure shelter.  With the help of the Safehouse staff, each client, male and female, is empowered to go on to live an independent, violence-free life.
