Everyday Hero Matt Wurst-Caligari

December 2, 2009

Matt Wurst-Caligari, a Web designer for Facilities Management, is the latest Classified Personnel Council's Everyday Hero.

Matt Wurst-Caligari
IT Professional II (Web Designer) – Facilities Management

Matt was nominated by Sheela Backen of Facilities. Here is what Sheela had to say about Matt:

“Matt is always willing to go the extra mile to help with different projects he has been asked to help with. He has been a great help with the statistics for Recycle Mania and other green projects that would not get the recognition they need without Matt’s help.

"He attends the Live Green meeting and is willing to help and give his technical support with different projects that the Live Green Team works on. He always has a smile and great attitude and I think he is an Everyday Hero.”

Web designer for Facilities

Matt has been employed with CSU for 2 ½ years in his present position as Web designer. Matt graduated from CSU in 2001 with a degree in Business Administration, Computer Information Systems.

Matt likes the environment at CSU. He feels there is a collaborative effort in helping each other out and a camaraderie among staff that shows CSU’s purpose is about benefiting society.

Matt is currently a member on CSU’s Live Green Team. The Live Green Team promotes sustainability in residential halls and University apartments. He also participates in a local multiple sclerosis fund raiser every year in Fort Collins.

Matt’s hobbies are snowboarding, practicing Kung Fu martial arts and listening to music. He makes homebrew beer and hopes to make wine in the future.

Likes being able to help others

When asked how he feels about being nominated as an Everyday Hero, Matt said, “I was surprised!” He was happy that someone voluntarily nominated him and it means a lot that someone appreciates what he does. Matt said it is a pleasure working with co-workers and the department. He likes the feeling of being able to help others.

Matt’s future plan at CSU is to continue to push the Web presence forward and be on the leading edge of new ideas and technologies. He hopes to improve getting information out effectively through various techniques using video and photographs. Check out Matt’s newest website developed from scratch called “Campus Character.” This site showcases the architectural character of main campus dating back to the founding in 1870.
