Vocals rich, deep, melodic

Branden Sipes is an emerging, acoustic solo artist who performs original music that combines rock, pop, and folk influences. His music has been described as “purely authentic,” and his sound has been compared to the likes of Jason Mraz and Jack Johnson.

Songs from his debut EP, Contemplation, have been featured on 93.3 KTCL and 88.9 KRFC along with several internet radio stations nationwide. Branden has been awarded 1st Alternate in the Telluride Troubadour Competition, Honorable Mention in the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival, and Honorable Mention in The John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

Sipes describes his sound as “rich, deep, and melodic that blends elements of different genres while maintaining vital focus on smooth vocals and tasteful acoustic guitar.”

His catchy and finely-crafted lyrics describe universal life experiences with a clever ease and intricate guitar work, and are a well-suited accompaniment to his intimate vocals.

'The journey we're all on'

“I am inspired by life experiences,” Sipes said. “Most of my songs come from my own perspective and include common themes of love, heartache, and the journey we are all on to find out what we’re here for and what is meaningful to us.”

Branden describes his performance as “dynamic - ranging from quiet finger-style guitar passages to powerfully strummed chords supporting the vocal line.”

“I try to use the guitar to create a sonic landscape that evokes the feeling of the song and provides a proper accompaniment to the voice and lyrics,” he said. “The audience can expect an enjoyable listening experience.”

Colorado State alumnus

Sipes is no stranger to the CSU stage. He graduated from the University as a business and music performance major, where he focused in both voice and classical guitar. This performance gives him the chance to showcase his own material in a familiar setting.

“I'm thrilled to have this opportunity to perform again at CSU,” he said. “Now, as a singer/songwriter, I perform my original songs and other contemporary music for a broad spectrum of listeners.

"In any venue, the goal remains the same; to share the experience of live music with the audience and to translate what the music means to me through my performance. Being a part of the Contemporary Artist Music Series is an honor.”

Fourth performance in series

This is the fourth performance in the Contemporary Artist Music Series, a five-concert series made possible by the generous support of Bohemian Foundation. The series aims to increase the amount of live contemporary music performances in Fort Collins and encourage audience and community support of local musicians.

Additionally, the series exposes students to different models of success in the music world, celebrates CSU alumni who have had success in the contemporary music industry, and helps to bridge the gap between classical and contemporary music for audiences.
