In Memory

Brit E. Todd, Research Associate in Environmental & Radiological Health Sciences, died Jan. 3

January 7, 2009

The Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences lost a valuable and respected member on Saturday, Jan. 3, when Brit Todd died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home.

Brit was a Research Associate in the department who worked with the Colorado OSHA Consultation Program. He graduated from CSU in 1999, earning a Master's degree in Environmental Health with a specialization in Industrial Hygiene and shortly thereafter joined the Occupational Health and Safety Consultation group.

Expert on industrial hygiene, safety

Brit was a remarkable individual who represented the department, university and state of Colorado with distinction. He provided valuable technical assistance to the agricultural community throughout the region and extensive service to small businesses throughout Colorado. Our reputation as a Land Grant University was enhanced through every activity in which Brit participated. He was actively involved with the Industrial Hygiene students, delivering lectures in classes such as Industrial Hygiene Lab and Safety and most recently, mentoring the Occupational Noise Control class students during the final semester project.

Brit's work with the Colorado OSHA Consultation Program was crucial to the outreach and service mission of ERHS. His contact with small business owners and members of the agricultural community allowed us to reach and serve groups of people who might otherwise not have come to CSU for information or help. At the national level, Brit represented us during two tours of duty at the World Trade Center after the 9/11 attacks, and one tour of duty in and around New Orleans after hurricane Katrina.

Hawaiian shirts, brilliant smile

He was known for his Hawaiian shirts, bright athletic shoes, an amazing ability to recall minor bits of technical knowledge, a brilliant smile and a very easy going demeanor.  Brit was our colleague but more importantly, he was our dear friend.

Brit is survived by his wife, Becky, and sons Travis and Jared.

Memorial Service Jan. 8

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Allnut Funeral Services, 650 W. Drake Road, Fort Collins. A celebration of Brit's life will be held at C.B. Potts Pool House at 3 p.m., immediately after the memorial service.
