Successful Foreign Language Career Panel held on April 6

April 12, 2010

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures hosted a Career Panel on April 6 that was quite successful. The exceptional panel included professionals from the fields of International Education, Study Abroad and public school education (representatives from the Denver Public Schools and Poudre R-1 Schools), and from organizations such as the Peace Corps, the FBI, the M&E Painting Company, Advanced Energy, Beaudrey AS, TranslateWrite (translation and interpretation), Griggs Achieve (business entrepreneurship and consulting), and Global Tourism.

More than 100 students attended

The wide range of professions represented by the panelists drew a crowd of more than 100 students who were able to meet and ask questions of these professionals during the event.

"They were so inspiring and had such interesting experiences to share," remarked one student. "I learned so much about the wide range of job opportunities available, as well as the fact that knowing one or more other languages is a definite plus in any field."

Foreign language skills valued personally, professionally

One of the most important points made by almost everyone on the panel was how much their language experiences had enriched them personally, as well as professionally.

The Career Panel was organized by Frédérique Grim and Lynne Barnes, French instructors from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.
