Specialty Crops Annual Field Day Sept. 12

The Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture will be discussing their research that applies to small-scale organic production techniques. The talk is open to the public. Please RSVP by Wednesday, Sept. 7 if possible.

The Annual Field Day will be held at the Horticulture Field Research Center.The CSU Specialty Crops Program will host its Annual Field Day on Monday, Sept. 12 at the Horticulture Field Research Center (4300 E. County Road 50) from 1-4 p.m.

Applied research and demonstration projects focusing on small scale organic production techniques will be presented; includiing:

  • High tunnel summer production of tomato, pepper, cucumber, okra, yard long bean
  • High tunnel crop scheduling for winter production and planning for year-round production
  • Cultivar demonstrations and evaluations
  • Comparison of biodegradable mulch materials
  • Impact of different mulch materials on insect pest pressure on onions and broccoli
  • Hops cultivar evaluations

Presenters will include Frank Stonaker, Ph.D. and Dan Goldhamer, Dept. of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, and Whitney Cranshaw, Ph.D., Dept. BioAgricultural Sciences and Pest Management.

Horticulture Field Research Center

The Field Center is a 65 acre state-of-the-art facility for plot research in horticulture and allied disciplines. To get there, exit east at I-25 at the Mountain Vista exit (#271). Proceed east across frontage road and enter the 2nd driveway on the north side.
