CU launches new initiatives, braces for budget cuts

The University of Colorado will explore building a child-care center on its east campus, plans to add mandatory "experiential learning" credits, and wants half of its undergraduates to study abroad.

Chancellor Phil DiStefano revealed these new initiatives and discussed the Boulder campus budget during a state-of-the-campus address Oct. 5.

Declining state tax revenues during the recession have already prompted the Boulder campus to cut $12.9 million this year, but the campus is bracing for additional cuts.
