February 9, 2009

High school students, their parents and community members can learn about engineering majors and careers at Colorado State University's Engineering Exploration Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 14.

Demos, tours, and advising

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Engineering and Glover buildings and the Lory Student Center on Colorado State's Fort Collins campus. The opening session will be in the Lory Student Center Main Ballroom.

Engineering Exploration Day participants can view demonstrations from all engineering programs, including robotics and electronics. Participants also will learn about engineering majors and careers and undergraduate life at Colorado State.

Explore variety of opportunities

Engineering professors will describe the university's chemical and biological, civil and environmental, electrical and computer, engineering science and mechanical engineering programs.

Tours of the college's Engines and Energy Conversion Laboratory also will be available.

Prospective students can talk with current engineering students, who will share their experiences, and learn more about scholarships, advising and the university's financial aid program. Additionally, a session geared primarily for women and minority students in engineering will be offered.

Registrations will be accepted until midnight Wednesday, Feb. 11.

Walk-ins will be accepted, but there will be a limited number of brochures, maps, and other handouts for the event.
