Forum looks at Big Data May 2

April 25, 2014

The second annual Big Data Forum, sponsored by ISTeC and Morgan Library, will present a discussion of key issues and challenges in managing and preserving scholarly and scientific data in the academic environment.

How do scientists, scholars, technologists, librarians, and others collaborate to effectively manage large volumes of data? What social and technical infrastructure is needed to effectively support research data management at the campus level? How do we collaborate to provide new services?

The Data Management Forum will be held May 2, 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m., in the Morgan Library Event Hall. Following a buffet lunch, Pat Burns, VP of IT and Dean of Libraries, will talk about “The Data Miasma.”

Other speakers include Rick Lyons, Infectious Disease Research Complex; Scott Novogoratz, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences; Ric Slayden, Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology; Andy Jones, CIRA; Shea Swauger, Libraries; and Scott Baily, ACNS.

The forum is free and open to the public; preregistration by 5 p.m. May 1 required for lunch.
