Ram Welcome Aug. 18-21

August 16, 2011

Ram Welcome is an orientation and transition program for all new first year and transfer students. Additionally, parents and family members are invited to attend specific events during Ram Welcome.

Ram Welcome 2011

All new first-year and transfer students attend Ram Welcome the four days before classes begin. It builds upon the orientation experience (including Preview, Next Step and CSU Connect) for new students once they have arrived on campus in the fall. Ram Welcome begins on Thursday, August 18, and continues throughout the weekend.

Ram Welcome 2011 will help new students to:

  • Explore academic programs and meet faculty and staff
  • Learn about the many services available to support your college experience
  • Become part of the CSU community
  • Connect with new and current CSU students
  • Connect with new and current CSU students
  • Learn traditions and discover what it means to be a CSU Ram!
First-Year Students

Ram Welcome for new first-year students begins at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, when students living in their residence halls attend their floor meeting while students living off-campus attend the Off-Campus Student Welcome in the Student Recreation Center.

At 4:30 p.m., new first-year students will meet their Ram Welcome Leader and learn everything they need to know about when and where to be for Ram Welcome. From there, students will be led to the University Welcome for an official welcome to the University followed by the New Student and Family Picnic with the CSU Alumni Association.

Friday features College Welcome activities (hosted by your academic department), and on Saturday, students will experience We Are CSU and discover what it means to me a part of the CSU community while taking the traditional C-S-U photo.

Transfer Students

Transfer Ram Welcome begins at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18, with the Transfer and Adult Learner Welcome in the Student Recreation Center. From there, new transfer students will be led to the University Welcome and the New Student and Family Picnic with the CSU Alumni Association.

Transfer Ram Welcome includes programs such as Transfer Connection (offered on Thursday and Friday) and the Transfer Induction Ceremony which will help students become familiar with their new environment.

Parents and Family Members

Parent and family members are an important support system for students, thus during Ram Welcome, there are programs just for them!

Parent and Family Ram Welcome programming begins with the Parent and Family Reception (doors open at 3:45 p.m.; program begins promptly at 4:15 p.m.) on Thursday, Aug. 18, in the Student Recreation Center.

From there, parents and family members will be led to University Welcome, followed by the New Student and Family Picnic with the CSU Alumni Association. Parents and family members will need a ticket to attend this event and can pick up tickets at any of the locations as follows:

  • 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. - Durrell Center, Lower Level, Rams Horn Sunken Lounge, Lory Student Center I-Box
