'The summer I learned to sculpt'

Colorado State's Youth Art Program is a great complement to sports and outdoor camps, and this year's classes feature instruction in sculpture.

The Department of Art's summer youth art program, taught by Judy Sawyer-Voss, is a tradition at Colorado State.

This summer the class will focus on the creation of three-dimensional imagery, using various materials.

Class dates

Classes will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for two weeks (a total of six days). Class dates are:

  • Monday, July 29
  • Wednesday, July 31
  • Friday, August 2
  • Monday, August 5
  • Wednesday, August 7
  • Friday, August 9

Instructor Sawyer-Voss 

Judy Sawyer-Voss has been an art teacher for thirty years, teaching in the Poudre School District. She supervises student teachers in the Department of Art and each summer teaches the Youth Art Program, alternating classes in drawing, sculpture, print making, painting, and mixed mediums.

Classes and instruction for two age groups

  • Grade 1-3: 10 a.m.-noon
  • Grade 4 and up: 12:30-2:30 p.m.

There is a minimum, total enrollment of 15. Without the minimum, classes will be combined or canceled.  

Cost/location in Visual Arts

The tuition of $90 includes all supplies. The program will be held in a new space this year -- D wing of the Visual Arts Building. Enter the building from the south parking area.
