Colorado reconsidering tuition limit

Colorado lawmakers are working on legislation that could give public universities the option to hike their tuition without state approval.

"We are trying to figure out how do we give the higher-education system flexibility that will allow them to survive the budget cuts that are inevitably coming in the next two or three years," Senate Majority Leader John Morse, D-Colorado Springs said.

The state has faced a $2 billion shortfall over the past two budget years and faces a deficit in the 2010-11 budget year that could be more than $1.3 billion.
