International Colloquium on China Sept. 8-10

August 27, 2010

Colorado State University will host an International Colloquium on China Sept. 8-10 to showcase some of the university's partnerships and research programs that directly address the challenges and opportunities facing China.

Featuring 11 panel sessions

The International Colloquium on China, featuring 11 panel sessions, will be in the Lory Student Center on the university campus. The event is free and open to the public.

“China is among CSU’s most important global partners, and the International Colloquium illustrates our impressive connections to China,” said Jim Cooney, vice provost for International Affairs at Colorado State. “Not only are faculty actively working in China, but we have had a dramatic increase in the number of Chinese students at CSU who now represent our second largest group of international students.”

All eight colleges to participate

All eight colleges will present sessions that highlight some of the special research initiatives taking place in China. Topics include China-U.S. relations in the 21st century, Chinese culture, doing business in China, food security, environmental health, low-carbon development strategies, water management, and the role of pandas in wildlife conflicts.

Prominent participants from China include representatives from:

  • East China Normal University
  • China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research
  • Beijing Normal University
  • Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University
  • State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs

“CSU’s efforts to bridge the gap with China through student exchange and faculty partnerships are key to building lasting ties between the U.S. and China,” said Wei Gao, director of China Initiatives at Colorado State. “This International Colloquium demonstrates CSU’s ongoing commitment to working with China.”

The International Colloquium on China has been organized by CSU’s Office of International Programs with support from the Office of the President and the Office of the Vice President for Research.
