Fourth-year coach Steve Fairchild has added 27 new players to the fold.

Fourth-year CSU football coach Steve Fairchild has unveiled his 2011 recruiting class – a group of 27 players he hopes will make a big impact on the future success of the program.

The class includes five players from Colorado and 10 from talent-rich Texas. Fairchild and his coaches also signed players from California, Florida, Illinois, Oklahoma, Georgia, Missouri and Washington.

Running back Kapri Bibbs, who signed Wednesday to play for CSU, was one of the top players in Illinois.

Running backs lead the way

A pair of talented running backs might be the stars of the group.

Kapri Bibbs, who was voted the top offensive player in the Chicago area, set an Illinois state record by rushing for 520 yards while scoring seven touchdowns in a game this season for Plainfield North High School. Dorian Brown, from Loveland’s Thompson Valley High School, was considered Colorado’s top running back before tearing his ACL prior to the season. Brown graduated in December and is already enrolled in classes at CSU.

Several players with interesting backgrounds are included in the class:

  • Justin Hansen, a lineman from Longmont High School, has excelled in four sports and in the classroom while living with Asperger’s Syndrome.
  • Lee Clubb, a wide receiver from Iowa Park, Texas, is also a standout baseball player who could be taken in the Major League Baseball Draft in June. He is adopted.
  • Donnell Alexander, a running back from Blue Springs, Mo., is the son of the late Derrick Thomas, the Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end with the Kansas City Chiefs.
  • Joe Kawulok, a defensive end from Monarch High School in Louisville, Colo., is the third Kawulok brother to play for CSU. Chris played tight end and graduated in 2008, while Michael will be a senior linebacker for the Rams. A fourth brother, Matt, played tight end at San Diego State.
  • Kicker/punter Keenan Adams, from Bainbridge, Ga., is a world champion turkey hunter and archery expert.
