June 3, 2011

Gov. John Hickenlooper on Thursday ordered flags be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide today, June 3, in honor of Army Cpl. Brandon M. Kirton, who was killed in Afghanistan last month. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.

Kirton, 25, of Centennial, was killed May 18 in Kandahar Province of Afghanistan when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms and mortar rounds.

Kirton served with the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.

Services will be in Littleton on Friday, followed by burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
