Brain Awareness Week volunteers needed

February 24, 2009

Join us for the Brain Awareness Week orientation on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m. in Room W1 of the Anatomy/Zoology Building.

Spread the word, we need more volunteers!

Open to faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, undergraduate students, professional research associates, research scientists, staff, and those affiliated with neurobiology or CSU who have an interest in teaching neuroscience and research methods to teens.

Last year, over 100 of us were involved in our Brain Awareness Week program at Preston Junior High, where we spoke to over 250 ninth grade biology students about neuroscience research. We plan to do a similar event this year:

• PowerPoint slide show

• Approximately 12 “stations” where the junior high students break down into small groups and "tour" our posters/exhibits, some with hands-on activities.

First volunteer orientation, Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m.

The first orientation for volunteers is Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m. in W1 (basement seminar room) in the Anatomy/Zoology Building.

After Feb. 25, contact or with the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

The 2009 Brain Awareness Week program dates at two Junior High Schools are:

  • Preston Jr. High - Monday, March 23 through Friday, March 27 (the week after spring break)
  • Blevins Jr. HighThursday, April 8 and Friday, April 9

Sponsored by the Department of Biomedical Sciences and the Front Range Neuroscience Group.
