State Classified Employees Open Enrollment Period ending soon

May 7, 2014

The opportunity to modify your benefits elections for coverage beginning on July 1, 2014, ends Thursday, May 15.

The State of Colorado Department of Personnel and Administration has announced the open enrollment period for benefits coverage beginning on July 1, 2014. The opportunity to modify your benefits elections will occur Tuesday, April 22–Thursday, May 15.

Some highlights of the enrollment period include:

  • BenefitSolver – You can sign up for new benefits or change your existing benefits for the next fiscal year (July 1, 2014 – June 30, 2015) through the state’s online system, Benefitsolver
  • Current Coverage – If you do not make changes, your current insurance coverage will continue into the new fiscal year, with the exception of any flexible spending account enrollment (this includes healthcare and dependent care accounts). You must enroll for a flexible spending account each year to use that benefit, even if you have enrolled for the current year.
  • Medical Supplement Application Period – Low-income state employees can apply for a supplement program that helps pay medical premiums. The Medical Supplement Program provides funds for qualified low-income state classified employees with children. Funding for the supplement comes from a federal tobacco lawsuit settlement. Applications will be accepted through Thursday, May 22. Information about this program and access to applications will be available on the State’s website.

Benefit options and premium costs

While information related to insurance premiums, plan coverage and the Medical Supplement (based upon income) is not yet formally approved by the State Legislature, you will find a summary of the highlights on the State’s website.
