TV shows and Hollywood films using campus tie-ins can be a win-win

Gregory House, the lead character on the Fox medical drama of the same name, is a Michigan medical school graduate. The University of Michigan created and shipped to House a diploma to be placed on the wall in the physician's office on the show.

Many major universities, such as Michigan and the University of Southern California, have a film office that decides whether to allow their school's reputation to be associated with a TV show or movie.

Television and film productions with university tie-ins are more authentic, while at the same time providing universities with free advertising, and the chance to 'up their coolness quotient.'
