CU plans to close current school of journalism

The University of Colorado is moving toward closing its current school of journalism and mass communications with plans to create a new program that will better prepare students for the world of new media.

Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano announced CU would form a committee to make recommendations on how to continue journalism education to ensure that course and degree offerings meet the needs of a rapidly changing global society.

Faculty were notified Wednesday morning in a closed door meeting the process of shuttering the school of journalism in its current form will now begin. Current students will be able to complete their degrees.
