Green Warrior campaign kicks off Sept. 24

September 24, 2012

For a third year in a row the Green Warrior campaign is back! Students can do their part to protect the environment by becoming a Green Warrior and fighting against environmentally detrimental behavior.

Starting Sept. 24 and running until November 16th, students can pledge green actions to earn points toward sustainable prizes and become “Green Warrior Certified.”

Weekly themes

In addition to earning prizes, Green Warriors will be informed of weekly sustainability themes along with “Green Tips” for that week’s theme. For example, participants from the first week of Green Warrior will receive facts and tips themed on alternative transportation. Other topics during the campaign include energy conservation, composting, recycling, water conservation and renewable energy.

Start collecting points

To get started, students can log on to the Green Warrior Website using their EID.  Students will be asked to provide their email address so the Green Warrior team is able to coordinate the distribution of prizes (your email will not be used for any other purpose). Once on the website, students will be asked to fill out the Green Warrior pledge, a commitment that we ask students to take seriously. Remember, once a Green Warrior, always a Green Warrior.

After these sign-up steps, students are ready to start earning points for all of their Green Warrior behavior. From shorter showers to shutting off lights, Green Warriors are able to earn points for almost every green action they take. If you don’t see your particular green efforts on the list, no need to worry. Give a brief description of your actions in the “Bonus” category, and a Green Warrior team member will evaluate your action and award points accordingly.

Green Warrior prizes

Once a Green Warrior begins their fight for Mother Earth, they can earn various prizes depending on the amount of points they’ve earned. For example, 25 points earns a sticker and a compact fluorescent light bulb, 50 points earns a Green Warrior T-shirt, 75 points earns a remote-controlled power strip and 90 points or greater earns you a “Green Warrior Certified” decal and a chance to win a bike.

In 2011, 689 students became Green Warriors. Let’s top that participation rate in 2012 and show that CSU students lead the charge in the sustainability movement.

So, do you have what it takes to be a Green Warrior?
