Track & field sends 14 athletes to NCAA regional

Fourteen members of the Colorado State track and field program that reached regional-qualifying marks this season will participate in the NCAA West regional meet this weekend, held at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.

Top five advance to NCAA championships June 9-12

Kristen Kugler will be competing in the heptathlon at the NCAA West regional meet on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin, May 27-29.

Field and running events will be held each day beginning Thursday at 11 a.m. MT, while the finals in all running events will take place Friday and Saturday.

The top five finishers in each event advance to the NCAA championships, June 9-12 at the University of Oregon, along with several others in each event that have the best marks in the country but did not qualify at their respective regional meet.

Berg qualified for two events

Senior Meagan Berg will lead the Rams, competing in two events this year, the discus and the hammer throws. She qualified for the same two events last season and finished 12th in the hammer (170-08) and 15th in the discus (153-06).

Other women competing in field events are Leah Elmshauser (hammer throw), Jennifer Ugochukwu (shot put) and Kristen Kugler (heptathlon). Kendra Gerk (10,000 meters), Kristen Hemphill (3,000-meter steeplechase), Ellie Rastall (10,000 meters) and Kristen Kugler (heptathlon) will be competing on the track.

In the men’s competition, CSU record holder Ryan Billups will compete in the triple jump, along with Cameron Carter (discus throw), Kirk Cooper (pole vault), Ian Lettow (shot put) and Tyson Williams (shot put). Senior Nigel Joseph will be running the 400-meter hurdles Thursday and Friday.
