July 28, 2009

Ram senior Natalie Stone won the Utah State Women's Amateur Golf Tournament championship last week at the Thanksgiving Point Golf Course in Lehi, Utah.

Edged out 14-year old golfing phenomenon

Stone finished the tournament at -2, edging out 14-year old golfing phenomenon Sirene Blair. She also shot 73-71-70 over the three day tournament. On the final day of the tournament, Stone had two birdies to help secure the win.

The Bountiful, Utah native, Stone returned to her home state for the tournament after a successful junior season at Colorado State where she competed in 13 tournaments and had her best finish in the BYU Dixie Classic where she took fourth.

Espinoza qualifies for USGA Women's Amateur

This continues the success of Ram golfers in the off-season, as sophomore Brianna Espinoza shot a 71 on July 16 at Alta Mesa Country Club in Mesa, Ariz. That was good enough to qualify her for the USGA Women’s Amateur Aug. 3-9, at the Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri.
