Ask Cam

Pedal power!

January 12, 2010

Hey Cam,
Whenever I go to campus, I ride my bike. Judging from how full the bike racks always are, I’m not alone. How many bike racks are on campus and are they going to add any more?

Cam’s response:

You make this mascot proud because you are among the two-thirds of students who use alternative transportation or carpool to campus! Sadly, I am not among this group (Do you know how hard it is to pedal a bike with hooves?). But when I do travel, I always carpool with the Ram Handlers.

Once again, the good folks at Facilities have helped me with some information on this: Each bike rack can hold 10 bikes and there is room for a total of 10,500 bikes on campus. About 4,000 bike “parking spaces” are located near residence halls and the remaining 6,500 are spread through campus. CSU has added about 200 by July of this year and plan to increase by 30 percent bike parking near academic buildings.

You promise keep pedaling your bikes, and I promise to keep pleading for bike racks.
