New Orleans colleges five years after Katrina

On most campuses in New Orleans, there are few outward signs today of the devastation colleges suffered after Katrina came ashore on Aug. 29, 2005. The catastrophe, has, however, left a mark on the courses the colleges are teaching and the students they are attracting.

Students from across the country have flocked to New Orleans for the chance to study and help rebuild the city. And although the city continues to be plagued by violent crime and a shortage of affordable housing, it remains a mecca for many idealistic students.
