Ask Cam

Roof for Hughes?

October 14, 2009

“Dear Cam, I was so cold standing at the football game against Utah. Does CSU ever plan to build a football field with a dome or put a roof over Hughes Stadium?”
Cam’s response:

What? I have to be honest, just hearing this question really blows my horns! Are we the Orlando Rams, or perhaps the Cabo San Lucas Rams? NO! We are the Colorado State Rams! You should relish the chance to watch teams play the football in a setting as nice as the foot of the Rocky Mountains.

I was out at the stadium on Saturday. Sure, it was cold. But I had enough ram-sense to wear a wool coat. Other than the need for fans to be Rocky Mountain tough, there are a few more reasons you should jeer, not cheer, the thought of a man-made ceiling blocking out the natural sky.

• CSU hosts 6 football games a year and at least two are before October, when it is still warm and sunny – perfect football weather.

• It’s usually not snowing – the Utah game was the first time in at least 7 years that we had to clear the field on game day.

• We play teams from Texas and California – snow and cold are nice advantages.

• CSU probably has better things to spend money on.

• Mama told you to wear a coat and a hat for a reason.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go outside and do a snow dance in hopes that we have wonderful white flakes for the rest of our home schedule!

Happily chilly in my wool,
