State Classified Open Enrollment May 4-20

April 28, 2010

Open Enrollment for State Classified employees will run from May 4-20. You must enroll in benefits through the State's online system, BenefitSolver.

Mandatory online enrollment

Open Enrollment for State Classified employees will run from May 4-20. You must enroll in benefits through the State’s online system, BenefitSolver, during Open Enrollment even if you are currently enrolled as your current medical and dental plan coverage(s) will terminate June 30, 2010.

Employees may enroll or change optional life insurance during Open Enrollment, with the exception of life insurance coverage for same gender domestic partners which will be available at a later date.

United Healthcare new medical plan administrator

United Healthcare will be the new medical plan administrator beginning July 1, 2010. None of the current medical plans, with the exception of Kaiser, will carry into the new benefit year – you will need to carefully review all of the new plans offered before making your choice. Further, United Heathcare’s network of providers, hospitals, etc., may not be the same as your current network through Great West/CIGNA, so be sure to take this into consideration when making your decision.

Dental plans have changed

The State has eliminated one of the dental plans and modified the remaining plans to some extent. Similar to health coverage, you must enroll during the Open Enrollment period to remain covered, change coverage or begin coverage, in a dental plan.

Domestic partner eligibility

In the 2008-2009 legislative session, benefit eligibility was expanded to include same gender domestic partners effective July 1,2010. If you will be covering a domestic partner on your medical or dental plans, you will be able to add him/her during open enrollment.

Complete information about Open Enrollment, your benefit options, premium costs and BenefitSolver is available on the State’s website.

The CSU website provides links to the State’s information as well, includes a comparison of current medical and dental rates versus July 1, 2010 rates, and lists the schedules of various benefits presentations, fairs and help sessions.

Remember that Federal regulations from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) require that you provide the social security number of your spouse or domestic partner and your child(ren) that you are enrolling on any benefit plans.
