The Director of Environmental Health Services, or EHS, reports to the Vice President for University Operations and is responsible for the overall management of a service-oriented department that strives to develop partnerships in environmental health and safety through quality services and education.

Safety and campus environmental health oversight

The Director of EHS is responsible for the management of a comprehensive environmental and occupational health and safety program for Colorado State University, as well as serving as the liaison with Federal, State and Local agencies and regulators. The Director manages a staff of 21 with an annual budget of approximately $2.1 million.

EHS provides safety and environmental health oversight, compliance assistance, and hazardous waste disposal services to the University communities with a quality service oriented staff of technical and administrative personnel in the following areas:

  • radiation safety
  • building health and safety
  • construction safety
  • AED/CPR/First Aid
  • training
  • public safety
  • biological safety
  • chemical safety
  • occupational health
  • hazardous material/waste management
  • industrial hygiene
  • asbestos/lead management
  • emergency planning
  • environmental management systems
  • business recovery planning
  • emergency response
  • public health
  • environmental regulatory compliance

Minimum requirements

  • Master's degree in a scientific field of study.
  • Ten years of professional experience with progressive responsibilities in an environmental health and safety department in an academic setting or comparable organization.
  • Functional knowledge of best management practices pertaining to the principles of safety as well as Federal, State and Local environmental regulations and guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of best management practices pertaining to the principles of environmental health and safety as well as federal, state and local environmental health and safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Must be currently employed at Colorado State University.
